An exceptional 20th century French Art Deco period billot de boucher or butcher block, circa 1930s, handcrafted of mixed woods by the well known Xavier Aubert workshop in Dijon, France. The thick carving surface, with the original USINES X. AUBERT, MATÉRIEL & FOURNITURES, DIJON brass label affixed to the front, has a beautiful patina and authentic wear from decades of use in a French boucherie. Banded with iron braces that help to keep the top from splitting, this fantastic butcher block sits over a graduated stacked wood apron having a single knife drawer and original brass Art Deco handle with a geometric motif, all typical of the period. Raised on stop-fluted straight legs headed by rectangular blocks with carvings similar to the drawer handle. A great size, this authentic French butcher block retains its beautiful rich, original color and has a fresh wax and polish that allows the wood to shine. A perfect addition to any kitchen.
