A striking and deeply sentimental Victorian mourning ring, dating to 1876 and beautifully embodying the elegance and emotion of 19th century sentimental jewellery.

Created in rich 18 carat gold, the ring is formed with a substantial wide band, around which is enamelled the phrase 'In Memory Of'. The crisp black enamel contrasts beautifully against the warmth of the gold.

The front panel is especially unusual, designed in a shield shaped profile rather than the more commonly seen oval or circular forms. Filled with black enamel, the centre is adorned with a single old cut diamond set within a star shaped setting. 

The ring carries a wonderful sense of presence on the hand, balancing bold design with sentimental charm. A testament to enduring love.

Condition: This is overall lovely antique condition with only a fine patina of wear to the gold. There is enamel loss icorssthe entire ring and we believe the shield has been re-enamelled during its life time.
