Expertly hand carved into the stone is a charming scene of a cherub reaching into a thorny bush to retrieve a heart within. The imagery is wonderfully evocative, speaking of love pursued despite hardship, and affection won through perseverance and sacrifice. Encircling the scene is the French motto ~ Nul plaisir sans peine. Translating as 'No pleasure without pain' the phrase perfectly complements the carved imagery.
