Fascinating 19th century self-help book for the memory which, to my mind, contains mnemotechnic methods so elaborate as to make it nearly impossible for it to aid the memory, but to even remember what to remember in order to remember. It contains elaborate code systems, alpha-numeric switching and signing, word associations, etc. But I suppose one could through this really memorize the specific gravities of elements, the densities of various woods, heights of volcanoes, the Kings of England, and a complete history of all the ancient highlights.
