An EF Payne bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels like a #3 line. 2.9 ounces on my scale. Lightly used condition with some grip soiling and cosmetic casting cracks to the female ferrule wrap. The rod action is delicate with a crisper butt and softer tips - it feels like a great trico rod. The ferrules, reel seat, hardware, and ferrule plugs are correct for Payne, though I find the temper color a shade too light and the wraps too loose than what you'd ever find from Jim Payne's tenure. So my hunch is that this rod came out of the Payne shop post-Jim. The main wraps are brown with yellow edges on all wraps, maroon edges at the keeper and male ferrules. High arch bronze snake guides and small hoop tip tops. Step ferrules that are oxidized jet black. The grip is 5 12" long with a cigar profile with a fair amount of mass in the center. The cap and ring seat is oxidized and retains 90% of the original oxidation. The butt cap has the later Payne die stamp. The spanish cedar seat is varnished and has a lip for the rear cork check. The bag is not original and has no hang tag, however the tube is original and has the Payne data sticker.
