A wonderful volume even aside from the provenance! The present work, an important first-hand account of the early efforts, conventions, etc., organized to end modern slavery, is rare to begin with. The present copy bears the original 19th century bookplate of Olympia Brown.

Olympia Brown, b.1835, is one of the most important rights activists of the 19th century. She was an active abolitionist, and, once slavery was officially ended, she turned her attention to suffrage. She is considered the first seminary trained female in America and one of the most important suffragists of the 19th century. An historic volume. We cannot trace any other works from her library that have been on the market.

It is further signed by Elias Richards [1802-1887]., active Massachusetts abolitionist. He is included in "Portraits of American Abolitionists."

May, Samuel J. Some Recollections of the Antislavery Conflict. Boston Fields, Osgood, and Co. 1869.

Good condition in original green publisher's cloth; a bit shaken. Some remains of a label of some sort on title, but nothing obnoxious.
