An EF Payne bamboo fly rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #6, #7, and possibly even a #8 line. I suspect that this may be a 210 or 212 model, though as with many Payne models no hang tag makes it challenging to say with certainty. Very good original condition with minimal wear to the inner part of the guides and just a hint of cosmetic cracking to the ferrule wraps, both of which indicate lighter use than what the well-tanned grip might suggest at first glance. Weighs 5.9 ounces on my scale. Perfection stripper suggests a 1950's build date. Medium action. The varnish and guides wraps are excellent. The main wraps are brown with red, yellow, and purple at the keeper and male ferrules and red edges on the main wraps. Heavy wire reverse twist snakes. The oxidation on the step ferrules is 100% original. The grip is 6" long and done in a western profile with a hidden pocket cap. The seat is an aluminum uplocking screwlock with the "Payne" stamp in a cartouche and "Reg US Pat Off." The spacer is spanish cedar. The rod bag is the original poplin but lacks the hang tag. In addition the ferrule plugs are missing and the tube is not original.
