Aspects of Scale in Flameworked Sculpture

        This video clearly shows many of the methods that glass artist Milon Townsend has developed to make the creation of large solid flameworked sculptures possible.

These include: bridges to keep extremities from moving; preheated glass pontils to facilitate the handling of the piece; soaking at a given temperature to allow continuous working of the piece; and use of any burner as a hand torch to melt and move glass on an object from one plane or one shape, to another.

"It is my hope that this video will help flameworkers think on a different scale, to be willing to try a larger piece than they might have thought possible."
