Thurman Munson was a warrior. Throughout his 11-year career all with the Yankees Munson was the heart and soul of the Bronx Bombers. Named team Captain in 1976 Munson a catcher had the respect of his teammates and opponents alike. Named Rookie of the Year in 1970 Munson was a 7-Time All-Star and 2-Time World Series Champion leading the Yankees to titles in 1977 and 1978. On August 2 1979 Munson was killed at the age of 32 years-old. An aspiring pilot Muson was practicing takeoffs and landings on an off-day in Akron OH when his plane clipped a tree and crashed. Munson didnt survive. In tribute his Yankees locker remained unused through 2008 the closing of the original Yankee Stadium. In 2009 the locker was physically moved across the street to the clubs new home. Munsons 15 is retired by the Yankees. The photographer Ken Regan has hand signed this 16x20 photograph of Munson.
