This photograph presents the Azure Window as never seen before. A full-moon casts strong light with harsh shadows when shooting a long exposure which gives the scene a totally different look then if it had been shot during the day.
The circular light trails are formed by the apparent movement of the stars through the night sky. What is moving in reality is the Earth, constantly spinning on its axis. 'Polaris', also known as the Pole Star or North Star, is the closest to the northern axes. By including this in the frame, the sky fills up with circular star trails when shooting a long exposure.
Surrounding landmarks like the 'Blue Hole' — a world famous diving site — adds character to this magical place. The foamy sea gives a ghostly touch to the rocks on the left.
This is a composite of 131 frames, shot in sequence over a period of 3 hours.
Captured on the 20th of June, 2013.
