A monumental undertaking, Spurgeon considered it the standard for all works on the Apocalypse, especially as it tended to work against the fanciful expositional guess-work of the futurist school. Written in response to the inroads made in the Church of England by the teachings of people like Edward Irving and later, John Nelson Darby.
