A rather scarce history of capital punishment by Alonzo [1804-1878]. Calkins was a medical doctor who took great interest in the relationship between poverty, family environment, substance abuse [he wrote on opium addiction, indica consumption, alcoholism, etc.] and crime.
Only edition issued.. Originally read before the Medico-Legal Society of the City of New York on September 25, 1873, the lecture provides an overview of the history of capital punishment for murder and some of the most common, and bizarre methods of execution. Only 2 examples located in law libraries (U.S. Supreme Court, Duke University).
