Our latest Burgundy dinner at Noizé featuring Domaine Clos de la Chapelle, with owner Mark O'Connell.
Clos de la Chapelle is an exciting revival of a venerable Burgundy domaine based around the eponymous, historic Volnay 1er Cru Monopole. Even trailblazing chemist Louis Pasteur was a huge fan back in the 1800s, placing a regular order for several dozen bottles for his personal enjoyment. Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark O’Connell in 2011 and Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Chateau de Bligny, owned by Pierre and Domique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows, Neal Martin & Jasper Morris.
Supporting their famous Monopole, Clos de la Chapelle produces other Volnays, Pommards and Beaunes and, for whites, excellent Pernand-Vergelesses, Meursault and even Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru. Committed to organic and biodynamic practices, the domaine produces a limited few hundred cases of each cuvée, with a total annual prodcution of just 1,500 cases.
At this special event, we explored a range from the domaine, including magnums of library vintages, shipped especially for the evening. The excellent French dishes at our old favourite, Noizé, in Fitzrovia, partnered brilliantly with the wines.
