Here is an exceptionally rare late English Reformation, early Puritan work. The only copy I have ever seen was offered at over $2,000.00

Richard Fowns [1560-1625] was the son of a Reformation minister himself and of that important generation that bridged from the English Reformation to early experimental Puritanism. His influence and prominence is evident from his selection as Chaplain to Prince Henry of Wales. Selected because he was a Protestant, and of the Reformed school, he greatly influenced the Prince who was, according to his enemies, a priggish, obdurate Protestant.

The present work is a rarity indeed in that it is both highly devotional, deeply theological, and manages to also engage in the then-present re-encroachments of Roman Catholicism into England. He deeply lays out the beauty and grandeur of Jesus in His three-fold offices, applies those deeply to the heart of God's people, and at the same time uses those arguments to speak of the uselessness of Roman Catholic inventions and additions in light of the abundant glory of Jesus.

Fowns, Richard. Trisagion; Or, The Three Holy Offices of Jesus Christ: The Sonne of God, Priestly, Propheticall, and Regall; How they Ought of All His Church to be Received. London. Humfrey Lownes, 1618. 782pp.

Very attractive in 19th century half calf which is in a very nice state of preservation. Textually complete with an early ink doodle to the dedication page, a stain and light loss on the first page of text [now neatly tissue repaired]. A few prorbably 18th century notes to the margin of less than 10 pages. Neatly done. Originally published with three separate title pages, the first lacking, the other two present. Should you wish, we have a wonderful source who can produce a facsimile on matching paper, age it appropriately and bind it in for an additional $50.00.
