The Amazonite Reef necklace made on the Isle of Arran by Jess MacDonald Brass

The Amazonite Reef pendant is made by melting and shaping wax, then using a method called 'lost wax casting'. The process and technique I use for the style of jewellery reminds me of the 'Bubble Coral' and Maerl that we have on the seabed around Arran, and hence it's name 'Reef'.

A natural reef is a ridge in the sea, usually made up of either rock or coral, sitting not far from the surface. Coral reefs are extraordinary, providing habitats for around 25% of marine species habitats, while also giving protection and allowing for safe breeding grounds for these species.

This is for anyone who has looked down through the water and understood, just for a second, that they were the visitor.

You do not have to dive to know the sea floor matters. You just have to have stood at the edge long enough to wonder what is down there.

Amazonite soothes the spirit & calms the soul- bringing you peace. It is thought to soothe trauma while calming the mind and alleviating worry & fear. Amazonite also has a powerful energy and linked to the female Amazonian tribe of Brazil, who were believed to use the stones to adorn their shields, heal wounds and cure illnesses. This rock is empowering, giving confidence to shrug off fear of confrontation and express ones own feelings- also known as a Stone of Courage

My jewellery is individually hand-crafted or made in small batch production which is hand-finished - this is reflected in the final finish of each piece. This means that it will not be the same as machine made or mass-produced jewellery. Instead, it gives each of my designs a special artisanal touch.
