Very attractive and scarce 48 issues of folio sized illustrated Civil War periodical addressed to the children of Union Troops. Extensive content addressed to wives and children about soldiers, spiritual help available to those mourning, a wonderful illustrated article on J. W. Alvord during the Civil War as an Abolitionist and part of the Freedmen's Bureau, etc. 

Approximately 10 x 14 inches in half leather; rubbed with hinges through and tender but holding. A few pages split where there were old center folds. Some scattered stains. A rare intact original Civil War collection.
