A rare, early 19th century French Restauration period chateau enfilade, circa 1815-1830, handcrafted of solid walnut by master artisans for a castle in the Loire Valley, where most of the French royalty preferred to spend the bulk of their time. A long rectangular plank top sits above two long drawers over three hand carved scrolling pilasters that provide a framework for the four panel doors with moulded arches. The finely chased bronze accents found throughout this very impressive and richly ornamented piece include trefoil shaped escutcheons on the drawers that feature butterflies, a classic symbol of royalty, with acanthus leaf motifs mounted on each pilaster and used as escutcheons on the doors. The motifs are amazing in their detail. Each set of doors opens to reveal a single shelf that provides excellent storage. Raised on tall carved block feet. Designed for use in a grand banquet hall, this buffet is a fine showcase of superb craftsmanship. Grand in scale and all original with all working locks and keys. The wonderful proportions and the rich character of the wood with its beautiful waxed patina makes this French chateau enfilade a wonderful focal point that will bring a distinguished presence to any room, from a dining room to a foyer or living room.
