IMPERIAL The dazzling architectural and design styles associated with the Second Empire of Napoleon III seem to be inescapable in Paris, where the famous boulevards and impressive avenues, help to create the city’s legendary beauty. And those beautiful surroundings, unsurprisingly, have had a powerful effect on Pierre Balmain and Olivier Rousteing’s complementary design visions. For his new Imperial collection of frames, Rousteing riffs on Paris’ distinctive elegance, opting for bold sculptured geometrical fronts that echo the aweinspiring perspectives of the French capital. Familiar golden symbols of the house are also referenced, as the iconic Balmain linked chain, often spotted on the house runways, and originally inspired by the traditional motifs of French silk scarves.
