Although hallmarked for 1990, we believe this piece to be of earlier origin. Its style, wear, and provenance all suggest an older ring that has been later re-hallmarked. Something not uncommon with antique jewellery.

Created in buttery 18 carat gold, the ring is set with an oval citrine, glowing with warm golden tones. The richness of the stone pairs beautifully with the depth of the gold, creating a piece with striking presence and warmth.

The citrine has been intricately engraved with a highly detailed scene: a peacock depicted holding a serpent. Beneath this sits a shield, grounding the composition, while above appears the Latin motto “Esse Quam Videri” — “To be, rather than to seem to be”.

A powerful motto emphasising authenticity and integrity, often associated with heraldry and personal values. The combination of peacock and serpent adds layers of symbolism of beauty, transformation, and duality making the imagery compelling.

Condition: This is overall good antique condition with a patina to of wear to the gold and stone . Its worth noting the very point of the stone underneath has a little chip/nibble however due to the style this is subtle if not at all noticeable due to the location
