An excellent Thomas & Thomas bamboo salmon rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tip built for a #7 line. Serial #4662. The data sticker on the tube has the weight as 4 3/4 oz, yet my scale has it at 7.7 oz. Medium fast action. The rod is in lightly used condition, with a reel foot impression in the varnish of the walnut spacer and some very minor soiling to the grip. The cane has a mottled flame treatment and is in 3 up node configuration. The varnish is lovely and in perfect condition. The wraps are red everywhere except at the ferrules which are black. There are 3 red windaways at the keeper and male ferrules. The keeper is on the wrap flat as well as the lettering "8 1/2' /#7 Salmon. no. 4662". Mildrum carbide stripper and chrome snake guides. The ferrules are oxidized and in the T&T Swiss-style with a collar on the males. The grip is 6 3/4" long in the western, or Payne fishtail style. The seat is an uplocking nickel silver screw-lock with "Thomas & Thomas, Makers" stamped on the slide. The mortised, varnished walnut insert has some great smoky bands in the wood. A nickel silver plug pulls out of the seat bottom to allow a short fighting butt of just 2 3/4" to be plugged in, just enough to keep the reel from tangling anything hanging off your vest. The fighting butt is composed of nickel silver and 1 1/2" of cork and a rubber button. The slide has 2 rubber "O" rings and a small drilling to help air escape. The fighting butt stores in a compartment in the bottom of the rod tube. The rod is stored in a tan poplin bag with a stiffener and a brushed aluminum tube with a brass collar and top. T&T logo and a data sticker are fixed to the tube. Nice salmon rod.
