A handsome 19th century French Louis Philippe style four-drawer bleached commode, circa 1880s. Handcrafted of walnut and meticulously bookmatched burled walnut, this handsome commode is complimented by its original Saint Anne gray marble top with an ogee edge and canted corners that overhang the body of the chest to balance the proportion of the plinth base and sabot feet, emphasizing the geometric quality of the style created during the reign of King Louis Philippe (1830-1848). The secret locking doucine drawer sits over three full-length drawers with circular brass pulls and a center brass escutcheon that identifies the keyhole. Not only decorative, the escutcheons protect the wood from the iron keys. Raised on sabot feet. The scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this chest is placed.
The Louis Philippe style is refined, linear, and restrained. The strong, bold lines of Louis Philippe pieces make them easily fit into an existing home, mixing flawlessly with other periods and styles. The scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this chest is placed.
