Various regiments of the Texas Brigade were clothed by company in numerous forms of dress. While in the Army of Northern Virginia, clothing was replaced with standard patterns of the Richmond Depot. The frock coats and other forms of dress common in the earlier campaigns were now standardized. By the Gettysburg campaign in 1863 few items would stand out from other regiments. Although only speculation, some individuals may have retained some durable item from an earlier uniform like this soldier’s brass letters and number on his forage cap.
