Studied at Bolton and Manchester Schools of Art, at the Royal College of Art through a scholarship, 1948–51, then at the British School in Rome for two years. In the 1950s Bradshaw was appointed to teach etching at the Heginbottom Art School in Ashton-under-Lyne, where his northern directness was said to be appreciated by students, and in 1960 he took up the post of professor of fine art at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa.
