This Civil War era publication contains a first story about a cruel master of a white child laborer and a black servant / slave. He nearly thrashes the child to death over a broken jug. Because of the town's love for the pious young man, they threaten to lynch the master, who commits suicide as a result. His witness of love for the master results on the conversion of the servant / slave.

The second work involves a young man, apparently founded on fact, who was converted at 6 years of age and was "one of the first to enlist" in the Union Army. It seems from the authoress' timeline that he would have been perhaps 17 years of age. He is brokenhearted at the godless character of many soldiers and prays for the conversion of his fellows. It seems that a revival resulted with "many serious" around him, etc.

In one fascinating extract from his youth, he was near death and in horrific pain from extensive burns. But the pain would completely disappear so long as someone had their hand on him and was in prayer, returning immediately when they ceased.

The works are continuously paginated and no example of either title is available on the market.
