In Hindu culture, water is offered to the deity, mainly Sun god Surya and Shiva Lingam. The importance of offeing water is mentioned in the Puranas in the form of a story in which demons called Mandeha are intending to destroy Surya. Thus, Arghyam or offering water to Surya acts as a weapon to destroy the demons.
