A Paul Young “Special Parabolic 15” bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels like a #5. The rod is made with 1 dry and 1 wet tip. It weighs either 4.3 or 4.1 ounces depending on tip. The rod leans to the slower side of medium and flexes well into the butt. The original owner's name “Joseph H. Swain, Dec. 1954” is inscribed on the rod. The varnish on all sections is excellent. The butt and wet tip have 2-opposed nodes, light-to-medium flamed with occasional darker patches, while the dry tip is darker with many more darker patches. The main wraps are brown and the dry tip has a red windaway wrap above the ferrule wrap and at the tip-top. The stripper is a carbide and the snakes are black with very little internal wear. The step ferrules are black-oxidized. The grip is 6" long and shaped to a blunt cigar that has some erosion from cleaning. The seat is a black anodized down-locking screwlock over flatted cork, and the cap is nickel silver, oxidized black with only about 15% of the oxidation intact. The pocket cap is stamped “Paul H. Young Co., Detroit, Mich.” The rod packs into a bag and tube.
