The design is based of the Huntly District tartan with colors chosen in the Grampian, Banff and Buchan District tartans because of the Dempsters connections to these regions. It was created in the hands of D C Dalgleish of Selkirk in the month of May, 1996. The colours available in the Dempster Tartan include Blue, Red, Yellow and Black. The Dempsters Tartan was meticulously designed, taking into consideration its historic importance and historical significance.
