The streptococcus quick test from Abbot allows the doctor to quickly and safely check for a group A streptococcal infection using a throat swab. As a result, treatment can immediately follow the diagnosis. The quick test is based on an immunological test procedure (chromatographic immunoassay rapid test) and is used for the qualitative detection of strep A antigens. If the pathogen is detected, antibiotic therapy can be started quickly, e.g. in the case of tonsillitis or middle ear infections.
Patients with a strep A infection often show symptoms like swallowing difficulties, throat aches, fever and rashes (volatile exanthema in scarlet fever). If streptococcus pyogenes antigens are detected, early diagnosis and timely administration of antibiotics with penicillin may help prevent further complications from infectious diseases, like e.g. purulent inflammations of the tonsils and the throat, angina lateralis, otitis media, pharyngitis or scarlet fever.
