The design reflects a striped chiné taffeta with a large-scale floral arrangement created using an ikat technique. The softly blurred transitions within the motifs give the fabric its characteristic appearance, typical of refined mid-18th century textile production.

Design & Historical Context

This design is based on a textile fragment from a robe à la française, dated to around 1760 during the Louis XV period in France. Chiné taffetas with ikat-dyed warps were highly valued for their soft pattern transitions and were widely used in fashionable dress textiles of the time.
