A Brief History
The Chinese jacket known as the "Tang Suit" (唐装) has an intriguing history. Although its name suggests otherwise, this jacket actually originated during the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Initially designed as a three-quarter length garment for Qing officials, it evolved into a shorter style that became part of everyday fashion. After a period of decline, the Tang Suit regained popularity in the 1980s, largely thanks to the influence of Kung Fu films starring Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, as well as its appearance in The Matrix. Additionally, the style is closely associated with traditional martial arts like Tai Chi, where frog-buttoned jackets remain a preferred choice.
