The incomparable Mr. Blackwell was known for his skillfully beaded dresses and over-the-top designs. He designed for Hollywood sex symbols like Jayne Mansfield and Jane Russell but perhaps is best known for his “worst dressed” list that he published annually, lampooning Hollywood A-listers. This is a Mr. Blackwell Custom dress, his couture label. What’s more, it has never been worn and still has the tags!  The seed bead, faux pearl, bugle bead and prong-set rhinestone beading at the bodice forms stylized angel wings. The illusion mesh neckline is topped with a gorgeous jeweled collar. The tags are an extra plus - the dress originally retailed for $240 and was marked down. $240 in 1968 is the equivalent of $2000 in today's dollar! It also still has the original design house order tag, rare to find!

Good-fair vintage condition. There is moth damage and storage spots as noted in the photos. The spots may come clean with dry cleaning; I have not attempted to clean the dress in order to preserve the tags.
