From the collection of Phyllis M. Goddard, widely respected collector, researcher and author of books on William Spratling's works. She featured the pin in her book "Spratling Silver: A Field Guide", 2003, pg. 40, figure 2-56. See last image for reference.
A beautiful set of matching earrings and brooch. Crafted of 980 silver using the repousse method into the design of stylized conch shell cross-sections. The shape is also reminiscent of a shooting star or abstract flower.
Circa 1931-1946, First Design Period.
Each earring and pin stamped Spratling Made in Mexico with WS initials. The pin is further stamped Spratling Silver in an oval cartouche. Each earring measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/4". Screw backs. The pin measures 2 1/4" x 1 7/8".
