The Big Circle Bandhani Coat is a size Medium, with a 42" chest measurement. It's got a sampling of several styles of traditional tie & dye: bandhani, shibori, and stitch resist. Isn't it wonderful to wear masterfully crafted works by skilled makers, and support traditional arts and artisans?
Shibori art originated in Japan, and dates back to the eight century. Shibori cloth is folded and bound, also employing needle and thread to create the patterns - hence the name 'stitch resist' method. For bandhani technique, the artist creates patterns on the cloth by binding small, continuous knots with thread before immersing the cloth in dye. Bandhani is thought to be even older than shibori, practiced for over 5000 years by the textile artists of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
