Santa Catarina Palopo Woman's Huipil ---  Quetzals,Tree of Life, corn, peacocks, dogs, ducks and other bird designs on this finely brocaded huipil that was woven on a back-strap loom. The huipil has 3 panels and the base color is a coffee brown that contrasts well with blues, greens and other colors of the brocade.   Neck  and armholes are finished with a nice sun type design. The neck trim has some threads have a bit of brillante or metalic threads.

Purchased from Juana.  Woven by her sister Petrolina.

Condition:  Very good used condition.  The huipil shows light wear and a few loose threads. Sides seams open (could be easily sewn closed). Was last used as a nursing huipil, so need to close a small portion of seam (I can do for you)  Half of the panels are fringed others are  a looped selvage finish that is similar to the fringe. As with many Santa Catarina Palopo huipils, there is some uneveness to the length of the panels.  It could be hemmed to a even length, if desired..
