This 1960s Japanese tomesode kimono is a striking example of postwar textile artistry, crafted from lustrous silk and decorated with a meticulously hand silk-screened design. It is distinguished by its elegant black ground and elaborate patterning of floral blooms in white, peach, violet and jungle green. The silk screen technique, popularised during the 1960s as Japan embraced both technological innovation and export craftsmanship, allowed for vivid colour saturation and fine, layered detailing. The kimono is cut to a floor-sweeping length, with the eri collar falling to the hip. The traditional short, wide sleeves indicate that this is a tomesode kimono, traditionally worn by married women in Japan. It is luxuriously lined with white silk throughout. This kimono is in truly excellent vintage condition with no issues and is incredibly clean and fresh. Will fit a wide variety of sizes.
