Rare Vivienne Westwood Fall 1993 'Anglomania' Collection Runway Look 36 Deep Brown Faux Fur Cape JacketThe twin of the cape walked the runway for the Vivienne Westwood Fall 1993 collection as Look 36 on Christy Turlington. It was made under the creative direction of Vivian Westwood. Kate Moss wore a slightly different, more mottled feeling version for Look 27. Both the more mottled version of the cape that was worn by Kate Moss and the twin of this one worn by Christy were worn backwards. We love the runway photos and video that show it being taken off

  • The twin of the cape walked the runway for the Vivienne Westwood Fall 1993 collection as Look 36 on Christy Turlington.
  • It was made under the creative direction of Vivian Westwood.
  • Kate Moss wore a slightly different, more mottled feeling version for Look 27.
  • Both the more mottled version of the cape that was worn by Kate Moss and the twin of this one worn by Christy were worn backwards. We love the runway photos and video that show it being taken off of Christy mid-show.
  • The mottled version was photoed for British Vogue for the December issue of that year on Honour Fraser and this brown version appears in the Vivienne Westwood: Catwalk book. I love that these show you how great the cape is once on.
  • This collection is generally acknowledged as being one of her most important collections. In the book Vivienne Westwood: Catwalk they noted that this is the show titled "Anglomania" and her inspiration was her fresh love of European culture. "Suzy Menkes retrospectively dubbed Westwood as 'a one woman entente cordiale" and the fusing of France and Britain was never so handsome as in this collection.
  • This is also the collection where she introduced her Gold Label, to denote the catwalk collections. These pieces were produced in London to Demi Couture standards.
  • You can see the importance of this collection in that same book on her work as they dedicated 18 full pages to share the show looks when most collections only have a couple of pages given.
  • The cape is made out of a rich dark brown that has a glossy shiny finish and is a remarkably good representation of a fur.
  • The 'pelts' are stacked in horizontal, rose from top to bottom in a beautiful facsimile of a traditional fur.
  • There are no true sleeves at the sides she has taken where a sleeve could have been added and tucked and gathered it to create the fantastic draping shape instead.
  • This gathering at the sides is what allows it to fall over the body and breaks up the starkness of the rows. You can see how this falls in the photos and video.
  • Long ties extend out at the neck, and there is a single hidden fur hook to hold it in place. Although it was presented backwards on the runway, it could, of course be worn either way around.
  • The final perfect finishing detail is the hair print satin lining that offers a star pop of colour against the darkness of the 'fur'.
  • This is an incredibly rare opportunity to own a very valuable and collectible Vivienne Westwood piece from one of the most important and well known collections.
  • The cape slips on to wear with a single fur hook hidden behind where the ties extend outward. It is lined in a hair printed satin fabric. Pieces from this label were made to Demi Couture standards. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.
