This enormous vintage silver pendant depicts the Hindu Goddess Karni Mata.  It's 90% silver, and such an unusual, large deity piece. The lantern shape with its graceful curves frames the standing goddess, and is embossed and decorated in her honor. The light aquamarine color of the African glass beads complements the verdigris visible in the antique pendant. There's an older vintage textured bead from India, acorn shaped, and spacer beads of black striped ceramic. A length of silver, black and champagne brocade ribbon is the finishing touch. The silver elements are at least 50 years of age.  It's 29" in length, and adjustable too. Impressive, rustic & elegant one of a kind- only at Serrahna!

This incarnation of Durga was recognized for curing people of sickness, saving them from snakebites, and granting them a son.  It’s said that she owned large herds of oxen and horses, which helped her gain wealth and influence, and bring change and prosperity to the community.  She is famously honored in a particular RAT temple in Bikaner.  The temple safely houses hundreds of rats regarded as vehicles of the souls of departed devotees of Karni Mata waiting to be reborn.  Particularly auspicious are the white rats, which pilgrims wait hours to lay eyes on.
