This rare bodice from the Biedermeier period, originating from Germany and dating to ca. 1840, is a beautifully preserved example of early 19th‑century domestic fashion. Made of thin muslin fabric, the bodice features an exceptionally fine snood‑like arrangement of tiny, evenly placed folds, showcasing the delicate workmanship characteristic of the era.
The garment has long, straight sleeves, slightly gathered at the cuffs. Most of the original sleeve buttons are missing—only one remains—while the back closure retains all of its small, original buttons, a remarkable survival given the fragility of the textile. Despite the age and delicacy of the muslin, the bodice is in very good condition, with only a tiny tear at one shoulder. Decorative accessories shown in photos are not included.
A rare and elegant example of German Biedermeier clothing, this piece is highly desirable for collectors of 19th‑century textiles, historic costume, and museum‑quality garments.
