This historical stamp originates from the early 20th-century Hungarian Soviet Republic period (1919). It features the brown âParliament Buildingâ design from the 1916â1918 regular issue, originally denominated 2 korona, with a striking red overprint reading âMagyar TanĂĄcsköztĂĄrsasĂĄgâ (âHungarian Soviet Republicâ).
The overprint was applied during the short-lived communist regime (MarchâAugust 1919) when existing stock was reused to assert the new governmentâs authority. These issues are prized by philatelists for their strong political symbolism and the transitional nature of Hungaryâs postal history at the time.
