This portrait drawing came out of an old, falling apart sketchbook I found in Pennsylvania, definitely of the place. I have not found a definitive record for Joseph L. Everitt but haven't done a deep dive; I have found a few Everitt families in Pennsylvania in the 1800s. I believe this drawing dates to the 1870s or so, and just find a wonderfully charming portrait, especially for the marvelous framing, many times over! And for his tiny hand, tucked just inside the innermost frame! With a nice architectural sort of drawing on reverse as well--all in graphite.
Paper size 11 1/4" x 8 5/8". Burn hole at lower left as evident, corner wear/loss, and edge toning, all as evident, Drawings themselves in good condition, and paper not fragile.
