Wooden Statue of Saint Rita carved and painted in South Tyrol. Marvellous Statue depicting the Saint with roses on her feet. Rita, Patron Saint of Impossible Causes and Thorns, is also known as the Saint of Roses. On may 22 th, during the Celebration of Saint Rita's Feast, in every Church dedicated to the Saint it is customary to bless and distribuite roses. It is said that near the end of her life, Rita, bedrriden at the covent in Cascia, was visited by her cousin which came from Roccaporena. When her relative asked her if she desidered anything from her home, Rita, first refused, then she made a simple request: she wanted a rose from the garden of her family home. Her cousin was surprised at her request, the snow covered Umbria's hills, it was not a season when roses were in bloom. Anyway, she accepted her demand, she came to Roccaporena at Rita's family home and to her astonishment she found in the garden covered by the snow a beautiful rose bush.
