The 12K 2x2 Twill Weave Carbon Fiber Fabric from Fibre Glast is a heavyweight carbon fiber reinforcement designed for applications requiring substantial structural strength with fewer layers.
This fabric features 12K carbon tow (12,000 filaments per fiber bundle) woven in a classic 2x2 twill pattern, weighing 19.8 oz/sq yd with a thickness of 0.030 inches.
The heavy-duty construction delivers exceptional tensile strength of 620-655 KSI and a tensile modulus of 33.1-34.4 MSI, making it among the heaviest-duty woven carbon fabrics in the Fibre Glast lineup for demanding structural applications.
The 12K tow provides significantly more fiber per layer than lighter weight options like 3K (5.7 oz/sq yd) or 6K (10.9 oz/sq yd) fabrics.
This means fabricators can build thickness and strength with fewer layers, dramatically improving production efficiency for structural applications where total laminate thickness is the primary concern.
While the heavier weight makes it slightly more difficult to conform to complex curves than lighter carbon fabrics, it excels on flat parts and large structural components where maximum strength per layer is the priority.

This fabric is frequently chosen for core structural layers in composite layups, where lighter weight fabrics may be used at the surface for aesthetics while the #1072 provides the backbone of structural strength underneath.

For maximum strength properties, use with epoxy resin such as Fibre Glast System 2000 Epoxy (#2000).
When working with curved molds requiring conformability, laying the fabric at a 45-degree bias improves drapeability significantly while maintaining excellent mechanical properties.
Note that twill weaves are prone to unraveling when cut, so use Perfect Line Tape (#1735-A) or Dritz Fray Check (#1713-A) to control edges during handling and fabrication.
