This 1945 stamp from Berlin, Germany features the heraldic Berlin Bear, a centuries-old symbol of the city. Issued shortly after World War II, during the Allied occupation, it belongs to the “Berlin Bear” definitive series, the first stamps printed specifically for the city of Berlin. The design shows the bear standing upright within a patterned background, with the inscription “STADT BERLIN” above and “POST” below. Printed in green and denominated 5 Pfennig, this issue was widely used for local postal services in the immediate postwar years. Highly collectible, it represents both Berlin’s resilience and the transition to new governance after the fall of Nazi Germany.
