This striking joint issue between Hungary and Israel (2004) honors Theodor Herzl (1860–1904), the visionary founder of modern political Zionism and author of Der Judenstaat (“The Jewish State”). The stamps share an identical design featuring Herzl’s portrait, the multilingual title of his book, and his famous phrase: “If you will it, it is no fairy tale.” The Hungarian issue is denominated 150 Ft, and the Israeli version 2.50 Sheqel. This collaboration reflects Herzl’s Hungarian roots and his enduring legacy in the establishment of the State of Israel.
