The vintage rugs offered in the Hemp Bouquet collection were all handwoven in the Anatolian countryside by village women for their home use. Most date from the mid 1900s. There are regional similarities in design and motifs, yet no two rugs are the same and the diversity is astounding.

This impressive rug was woven on a vertical loom in the inland Aegean region of Anatolia. The handspun pure hemp field is embellished with triple weft bands and evenly spaced angular motifs are woven of walnut dyed hemp, along with matching motifs in black goat hair and burgundy dyed wool. The “Hand of Fatima” motif gracing the selvage at the fringe end is kilim woven of walnut dyed hemp yarn. One end consists of interlocking loom loops, and the other end has a short fringe.
This well designed and carefully crafted rug in complementary colors will enhance any home.
