This is the largest of three old steel die I am listing, which would have been used to cut leather for gloves and mittens. I also have the (also vey large and very heavy) maul that would have been used to pound them into the leather to cut it--if you have an interest in that, just let me know! I love these as objects, both graphic and sculptural, and this one, which weighs about 9 pounds, certainly having the most emphatic objecthood of all! (This one specifically also reminds me a bit of the sign language paintings of the late, great Martin Wong.) The edges of the hand-shape show old red paint, and the face looks dark blue to me with a little yellow along the bottom edges too. Plus rust, as evident, all to the good in my opinion.
8 1/2" t x 4 1/2" w x 6 1/4" d. Surface aging as evident but completely indestructible. 9 lbs. Stands up on its own.
