The 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, also known as "Rolling Thunder," is a field artillery battalion in the United States Army. It is part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. The battalion has a rich history, having been constituted on 1 July 1916 and organized on 21 May 1917 at Camp Robinson, Wisconsin. It has participated in numerous campaigns during World War I, including Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Champagne 1918. The battalion has also served in World War II and Vietnam, carrying campaign streamers from these conflicts. The unit's motto is "Macte Nova Virtute" (Go Forth With New Strength), and it is known for its nickname, "Rolling Thunder." The battalion is currently based at Fort Carson, Colorado, and is under the command of the 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division.
