This excavated spur has a small revolving rowel which still turns. The rowel has eight points.
There is a curved section with an acorn shaped end above the neck
The heel bands are quite deeply curved to accommodate the rider's ankle bone.

There is a double eyelet on each of the arms, one of these is a well-made modern replacement. A flattened strap hook and a partial buckle are attached to the other side 
This spur has been cleaned and treated with a preservative which gives it a silver finish.

There is a very similar example at the Metropolitan Museum in New York
