This French commemorative stamp honors Edmond Debeaumarché (1906–1959), one of the courageous Héros de la Résistance during World War II. As a postal worker and member of the French Resistance, Debeaumarché helped organize secret communications networks vital to the underground movement. Captured and deported by the Nazis, he survived imprisonment and later continued serving France through postal modernization efforts.
Designed and engraved by André Spitz and Pheulpin, the stamp portrays Debeaumarché in formal attire, framed by stylized motifs of resistance strength. Issued in 1960, this 0.20 franc brown-and-black issue belongs to France’s series commemorating notable resistance heroes.
