I've always been a bit amazed by the prices these old folk art sock/stocking cats command, but now having this one in my possession, I'm reluctant to let it go...it's fabulous! It's a fairly old one, maybe 1920s-1930s or so?, and a fairly large one, too, with some holes in the stocking testifying to some moths or something nibbling away at it at some point--unless it was a hole-y stocking to begin with! Great button eyes, wonderful face with embroidered whiskers (and what look like a few forehead wrinkles too!) and excellent twisted and thread knotted tail. A charmer and just in time for halloween, though feeling very much like a year round kitty to me.
